Who we are
Curious Claudette is inspired by the tradition of the cabinet of curiosities; a centuries-old practice of collecting rare, beautiful or unusual objects. This philosophy guides each sourcing journey across Europe, where pieces are chosen for their character and story, bringing depth and intrigue to a space.
Founded by Melbourne-based interior designer Mia Maria Kastaniotis and her Paris-born husband, Victor Taphanel, Curious Claudette reflects a shared appreciation for design, craftsmanship and heritage. Victor, whose background is in luxury products, brings a considered understanding of quality, while Mia’s interior design training and experience inform the vision and direction of the collection.
While living in Paris, Mia was drawn to the charm and history of discovering treasures at brocantes. Inspired to bring this spirit back to Melbourne, she now shares her styling perspective and eclectic eye through a curated collection of vintage and antique pieces.
The name Claudette is an homage to Victor’s father, Claude, who was raised in Montmartre and instilled in Mia and Victor a lasting appreciation for art and objects of character.
